Where's my account? I did the invite thing almost three weeks ago and it says "some" delays because of back up. Let me know.
  • Mike Rapin · 1 year ago
Wow. You guys kick ass. Keep up the incredibleness.

And to think, I was just freaking out over the fast forwarding in Hulu... instead you blew my mind. Thanks!

Wow, awesome release guys...the ffwd in Hulu is worth it alone. Sucks about Netflix for Apple TV, that would've been killer. I'll be waiting for that to happen (I believe in you) before signing up for Netflix again though.
  • DC · 1 year ago
Still waiting for my account any news????
  • mosten · 1 year ago
Can't wait to get home and try it out. Was *really* hoping for Netflix on the appletv, but I guess I'll just have to wait :)
  • Manuel · 1 year ago
    Congrats... !

So I read this posting, and your twitter feed, and am very excited for you. Emphasis on you... since I can't partake the forbidden fruit, no alpha for me yet. Yup, I got an Apple TV, and a hankering for some boxee love.

Am trapped in my ATV relationship -- the sparks don't fly anymore. When I wake up in the morning, I look over at it, questioning if it's the right thing for me, and where I am headed. All I get back is a blank stare.

I want to try something new, but instead all I hear is "Me, Me, MobileMe." I want to experiment, explore, and have an open relationship. I have a weakness for Hulu, get tingles for tweets, and think seeing Picasa could be the spice I need now. My friends know what I am talking about -- they moved on, and now regale me with their previous night's adventures.

    I need help.
  • jon · 1 year ago
OK. Apple TV support *has* to be around the bend..they're not that dissimilar. :) i guess i could just go for broke and install full OSX on my Apple TV

patiently waiting though ('cos i've no time to poke around n help:)
  • jon · 1 year ago
    oh, and by the way.
    FANTASTIC news.
  • ajay · 1 year ago
I just tried the update on my tv and no joy. It's still the same 0.9.4277 release that has been there for awhile. Am I doing something wrong? I actually went through the update process. No change, no difference. What's up?
  • jon · 1 year ago
@Manuel -- you do know you can run boxee on AppleTV right? just no Netflix support(yet;-) look for "ATV-USB Creator".
  • jon · 1 year ago
now i've reached spam territory, LOL. if i had patience, i'd read fully and realize that the speed of the processor is the issue at the moment.

    dang dang dang.
  • manderso · 1 year ago
Thanks for "The Big Picture". They always have great feeds. Lots of cool stuff here.
  • pawpoise · 1 year ago
The ATV update is now available...and immediately exists with STATUS 1 !!!
  • ajay · 1 year ago
Still no joy. I rebooted the tv and it allowed the update. I updated Boxee and the launcher but when I tried Boxee I received an error message "Boxee exit status:1" Now it doesn't work at all ;(
  • chood4 · 1 year ago
I'm with comment 17. I installed update from ATV a few minutes ago, now Boxee won't launch and I have the error message "Boxee exit status 1" ....any help out there would be most appreciated!
  • avner · 1 year ago
just saw the Apple TV errors. fixing
  • chris · 1 year ago
woot... fantastic news. Can't wait to give the "official" intrepid build a try. Keep hammering on Netflix; we appreciate the focus.
  • ajay · 1 year ago
Avner, re my comment #17. You fixed it!!! It's awesome. Way to go, and thanks.
  • Chris · 1 year ago
Awesome update. How can I get my hands on the beta windows version? Hook me up... please.
  • hcosta · 1 year ago
I've been using boxee from time to time, because i have to be on windows on my htpc (driver issues), so now i'm back daily to xbmc on windows.

I would be very pleased to help debug the Windows version. Let me in. :)

    Great work guys!
  • J · 1 year ago
    you guys are great

    boxee is amazing
  • almeyerx · 1 year ago
This is awesome, you guys rock. I hope Netflix for AppleTV will happen...that would be HUGE.
  • Noah · 1 year ago
Hey guys, the new on-screen keyboard does not get triggered by any keyboard keys so apps like Remote Buddy which simulate keystrokes and applescript events so they can add Apple Remote support to other apps can't use the remote to use the on-screen keyboard when in Boxee. :( I either have to disable Remote Buddy (which means I can't launch Front Row with the remote), or leave it on so I can launch both but I have to break out the wireless keyboard to type anything -- BIG bummer for my HTPC.

PLEASE support us Front Row users who also want to watch our iTunes video purchases!!
  • hssolo · 1 year ago
    Hi all,

I've been eagerly waiting for my boxee invite and nothing as of yet. Please help.....!!!!
  • matthew · 1 year ago
Good job! How do I get the update?
  • Raghu Srinivasan · 1 year ago
All you Netflixers out there can keep track of what movies you are watching online via Netflix and see if you're getting the most out of your Netflix membership at http://feedflix.com.
  • apple tv!! · 1 year ago
Please netflix on apple tv! Finally the box will be good for something.
  • Davius · 1 year ago
I love boxee so much I just bought an ATV (albeit on ebay)! Keep hacking away at that Netflix for ATV support boys! I know it's likely a limitation of that crappy Silverlight DRM-laden Netflix player.
  • Steve Trefethen · 1 year ago
    Very impressive! Congrats!
  • BK · 1 year ago
The NBC Olympics site used silverlight, which is what Netflix now uses(I think), and streams could be scripted to view in Totem. Think there is a way to do this for now until Netflix brings Linux support?
  • Darren · 1 year ago
The latest Boxee release shows more promise than ever. The latest additions are great and the bug fixes and performance tweaks make using it even better. I know this is still an alpha but beginning to wonder when video playback performance will be on par with the standard AppleTV software? Viewing HD Apple movie trailers is so much more choppy than in the ATV interface - why?

I believe that until the Boxee team can plug into the GPU the performance will never be quite as good as the PC versions.
  • Christopher Kelly · 1 year ago
This is really cool, but I wonder why you're not working on the more basic stuff too--like resume support for example. I'm sure that works in XBMC, right?
  • MILE · 1 year ago
Great job on today's release, Team Boxee...!! :)

Too bad that so many of the services (including Netflix) aren't available for us here outside the USA, but that's not your fault...

Now take a few days off and then start working on some skinning options and other cool features and squish those nasty bugs...! When is the next release due...?!? ;)))

I'm running Boxee on an Apple TV 2.2. Pretty fresh install. I previously disabled official AppleTV updates.

Should I update to 2.3 and then reinstall Boxee via stick -- is that the proper way to do things? If I don't care about 2.3, should I just skip the official update and update Boxee?
  • nap · 1 year ago
Wow, was also really excited about this! Until I read that it's not supported on AppleTV. Oh well... Definitely great progress, but I hope that Boxee will continue to work hard on getting Netflix to work on the AppleTV. That would really make it a killer app for me.
  • grey · 1 year ago
is ninjavideo.net available for atv ?

    thanks
  • tivoLovit · 1 year ago
I just upgraded to 0.9.5.4497 on my ATV running 2.3.

For some reason, while I am still able to browse network sources which have already been previously added (these are Airdisk drives connected to an Airport Extreme Base Station), I am no longer able to browse my network sources.

When I go to Add a New Network Source,
Instead of seeing AIRPORT-EXTREME and being able to browse the drives connected to it as I normally would, I only get the single option of manually entering an IP address. I'm no longer able to browse any of the computers connected to my network. Again, I'm able to access network media sources I added prior to my upgrade to 0.9.5.4497, I just can't add any new sources by browsing the network. I've tried restarting both the ATV and my Airport Extreme Base Station.

Similarly, when I go Videos > Browse > Network Sources I see WORKGROUP listed. Normally I would be able to select WORKGROUP which would then bring up the names of my networked computers along with my Airport Extreme networked drives. Instead, I now get a dialog box stating "Loading Error: Error fetching data."

By the way, the rest of the updates are fantastic! Boxee has more than quadrupled the usefulness of my AppleTV!
  • yodamac · 1 year ago
Awesome! I just got accepted and installed last night. Can't wait to try out the new features tonight and compare the "jittery" playback.

To those saying the AppleTV is "nothing" without Boxee - I beg to differ. It's been a wonderful device these last two years and has enabled me to enjoy my video and music collections anew!

But a big thanks to Boxee for innovating an already great product! New content options are great, but so is the overall user experience. ;) Keep squashing those bugs and keep it simple. :)
  • Brian! · 1 year ago
Just updated my appletv, then did the boxee patch for it. Put that in the back of the atv, rebooted and now....nuthin! Boxee won't work. Why won't you work, boxee? I want to watch WB programming all night long! Any help out there?
  • toloop · 1 year ago
I enjoy the update but Boxee seems to be more processor intensive. From a terminal using top, boxee is taking up from 62% to 70% of processing power on a Macbook Pro Dualcore 2.2GZ - 2GB RAM - OSX 10.5/ The fan is spinning very fast and its loud.

    TOP:
    44004 Boxee 67.5% 49:17.80 26 2934 2484 297M 20M 324M 667M
  • macsobel · 1 year ago
Boxee, I love you. I signed up for Netflix to play with this. Why would you tease me with this during finals? Also, Apple TV friend is excited at the chance of a Netflix fix.

You all rock! Way to make the coolest piece of mac software in existence!
  • sal · 1 year ago
i finally get smallville on my apple tv this is awesome
  • Brian! · 1 year ago
OK, so i need help. I updated my appletv. Ran the patchstick which appears to be failing!!! Why is the patchstick failing? It's a clean patchstick....boxee stuff's the only stuff on it.
  • Frederik Hermann · 1 year ago
Wow, this is amazing! Thank you so much! For me as a TV on demand via Mac Mini, boxee and Netflix subscriber it is all coming together now! I never subscribed to any regular TV service, I get everything I want on my big screen via the Mac Mini and boxee - you are now free to be entertained :-) Thanks and keep up the awesome work!
  • Matt · 1 year ago
Great release - definitely feels better on both my macs and appletv. One question about the netflix streaming - I don't see any of the TV shows (Heroes as an example) which are in my Instant Viewing queue. Any ideas?
  • Chris · 1 year ago
Ok so I found a bug in the new update. I'm on the latest appletv software and update to the new boxee tonight. When I tried to watch "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" in Hulu it says "We are sorry, but the video you have requested is restricted to users 17 years and older." I'm logged in on the appletv. It will play from the Hulu website though. Same thing with "Starship Troopers." Looks like the login isn't pulling in our account info.

Great work on the update though. I love how much you guys have added to my appletv.
  • Carl · 1 year ago
This latest version is amazing. It seems much more smooth than the previous one and the new additions of Netflix and the revamped Hulu is bulls-eye. Glad I get to enjoy the benefit of the early effort on your part.
  • Ski · 1 year ago
    Great release guys !!!!
It's shame about Netflix not working on the Apple TV-- oh well. I love the effort you guys but in your blog updates.
    Thank you again!! :)

Guys i've got two words for boxee... AWESOME & LEGENDARY!
  • Danny Briere · 1 year ago
This looks fabulous. One request -- and I can help make this happen if you want because I know them -- wouldn't it be insanely cool if you could support the Hillcrest Lab's airmouse with this (www.hillcrestlabs.com). It uses standard windows mouse drivers, is there a way to enable that over the mouse used by the box? Let me know if you need to talk to them technically, but this would be a huge attention-getter too. I love my Hillcrest box but it needs your software (there's a 'You've got your chocolate in my peanut butter' quote in here somewhere.
  • Tracy · 1 year ago
Will Boxee auto update or do I just download the newest version on my own? Thanks
  • Dave · 1 year ago
Hi, awesome job on the new release, it's looking really nice! I'm curious, I saw somewhere recently that Moonlight has been released. As I understand it, Moonlight is an open source implementation of Microsoft Silverlight. I'm wondering if this is the route you guys will take (or maybe even Netflix will take) to get the Netflix stuff working on Linux. I run boxee on an Ubuntu box and would absolutely LOVE to get the Netflix integration there. Anyway, great job, boxee is awesome!
  • Michael · 1 year ago
put down one more vote for the Boxee elfin' magic to get netflix on AppleTV...

    Thanks!
  • vruz · 1 year ago
ugh. no boxee for me then.

silverlight is *really* a show stopper, deal breaker and really a total dud
  • ned · 1 year ago
any chance I could get someone to send me an invite? i've been waiting for weeks now....
  • Rob · 1 year ago
I love the interface... Much nicer than netflix on Xbox 360... still some bugs, which i would expect, but it looks great... Nice Job guys!!!
  • jeremya · 1 year ago
"[Hulu]...playback should be greatly improved on Apple TV" Really? Still jerky as ever on my AppleTV.
  • avner · 1 year ago
    @Rob thanks!
  • ATV Owner · 1 year ago
Thanks Boxee team, great update! ATV playback is improving.
  • douglasgottlieb · 1 year ago
New HULU UI looks fantastic and works well!!!

The newest Boxee is a bit Flakee tho. I've UPDATED it twice and it frequently causes an ATV black screen that won't go anywhere (can't back out, can't go forward -- the remote makes ping sounds, but no luck.) Only an unplug seems to make it operable again... Sigh
  • gooroov · 1 year ago
yesterday i had blissfully connected all the assets on my iMac wirelessly--it would even stream VIDEO_TS smoothly...

today i update, cannot connect to any of my local assets any more at at. ran update again. now i'm trying to see if i need to have the same version on imac as ATV--I dunno.

Yes, I restarted Mr ATV--surely I don't need to run ATVUSB loader again?! Any clues for a fellow boxeeteer?

Where does it say the version number in the program UI itself?
  • Adrian · 1 year ago
im still waiting for the invite! I'm so excited to try this out!!!
  • nate · 1 year ago
Can you guys work on adding support for the video content at cartoon network's Adult Swim site??? That would freaking kick-ass.
  • avner · 1 year ago
@nate i think there is some adult swim stuff under MySpaceTV
  • PTTP · 1 year ago
Could Boxee use Moonlight to run Netflix on Linux?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonlight_(runtime)

Moonlight (runtime) is a free and open source implementation of Microsoft Silverlight currently being developed for Linux by the Mono Project with the help of Microsoft.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mono_(software)
  • tom sella · 1 year ago
@Dave & @PTTP moonlight currently supports Silverlight 1.0, where netflix requires Silverlight 2.0, so no dice. for now.
  • Fer Matus · 11 months ago
Hello, guys. Been waiting patiently to get in on the Windows Alpha, no luck. Can I haz invite? :)
